Inspection of the examinations

The inspection of the examinations takes place on April, 19th (Friday) at 13:15 in the lecture hall Neue Chemie (building of the institute of chemistry, see building nr. 30.46 in the quadrant G6 of this map http://www.kit.edu/downloads/Campus-Sued.pdf)

We offer a tutorial, where a tutor (Weixuan Zhang, zhangweixuanpeter@googlemail.com, a senior student) discusses problems/problem sheets with you. This tutor will also correct your homework.
During the semester the tutorial will take place each Wednesday from 2 to 3:30 pm in room SR203 in the ID.
Please note that the tutorials start on October 24th, 2012.

Problem sheets

Every Thursday a new worksheet with 5 problems will be handed out. For each problem you can get up to 10 points. Your solutions must be handed in on Monday after the week after next (so you have one and a half week to deal with the problem sheet). The worksheets will be posted on this homepage each Thursday and the paper copies will be available the same or the next day in the ID. You can hand in your homework in a box in the student office of the ID or give it to your tutor.

problem sheet 1 (sets, sums, double sums)
problem sheet 2 (mathematical induction, systems of linear equations)
problem sheet 3 (complex numbers)
problem sheet 4 (sequences, convergence)
problem sheet 5 (monotonicity criterion, subsequences)
problem sheet 6 (functions, limits of functions, continuity)
problem sheet 7 (infinite series, convergence of series)
problem sheet 8 (power series)
problem sheet 9 (complex equations, exp, ln)
problem sheet 10 (differentiable functions, chain-, quotient-, product rule)
problem sheet 11 (mean value theorem, extrema, De L'Hopitals rules)
problem sheet 12 (Taylor series, integral calculus (substitution, integration by parts))
problem sheet 13 (Taylor series, complex equations, sequences)

If you successfully work on the homework and the in class quizzes, a testat will be given to you at the end of the semester, which is required for registration for the exam.
Please note: The AM I exam is part of the Orientierungsprüfung, which you must complete by the end of the third semester.
For the testat, you have to satisfy the following criteria:

  • Obtain at least 125 points on worksheets 1 to 10. This is 25% of all the total points obtainable (each worksheet is worth 50 points)
  • Have at least 5 points from at least 8 of those worksheets.
  • Each week there will be a short in class quiz, which is worth 5 points maximum. You need to get at least 30 points on 12 quizzes and obtain at least 1 point on each of at least 10 quizzes.

Please note: The AM I exam is part of the Orientierungsprüfung, which you must complete by the end of the third semester.
The examinations in Advanced Mathematics will take place on February 16, 2013. During the exam the use of the following materials is allowed:

  • the AM I lecture notes including any handwritten notes in your copy,
  • a printed book of formulae,
  • one mathematical text book of your choice.

It is not allowed to use any electronic devices (calculator, etc.), collections of old exams or other materials not listed above.
