ACAMiMM Summerschool 2011 for students

At a summer school in Bydgoszcz, September 4-18, 2011, Professor Roman Ger talked about convexity in the following way:

"Convexity is a beautiful lady -- and I am a silent admirer of her".

In full agreement with his statement I drew at the beginning of my lectures on "Calculus of Variations and Applications to Elasticity" the following picture on the blackboard and said

"Convexity is truly a beautiful lady -- but do you also know her beautiful sisters?"

The picture found its way into the journal Macierzator 40 edited by the mathematics students at the Silesian University in Katowice. I am very grateful to them.

Research

  • All colleagues from the research group "Partial Differential Equations" organize three times per semester the Karlsruhe PDE-Seminar
  • In cooperation with Thomas Bartsch (Giessen), Bernd Kawohl (Cologne), Michael Plum (Karlsruhe), Guido Sweers (Cologne) and Tobias Weth (Frankfurt) we are organizing once every semester:

Nonlinear PDE Days Frankfurt - Giessen - Karlsruhe - Köln

The next PDE Days Variational Methods in Mathematical Physics will take place in Karlsruhe from July 17-18.
