Abstract

Let $\Delta$ be a building and let $\Gamma$ be a subgroup of its automorphism group. The set of residues stabilized by $\Gamma$ is partially ordered by inclusion. The minimal ones we call $\Gamma$-chambers, the next larger ones we call $\Gamma$-panels and we let $\tilde\Delta$ be the graph whose vertices are the $\Gamma$-chambers and whose edges are the pairs of $\Gamma$-chambers contained in a single $\Gamma$-panel.

In joint work with Bernhard Mühlherr, we determine exactly when the graph $\tilde\Delta$ has the structure of a building. In this talk, I will describe this result and say something about applications.
