Proofs from the Book (Summer Semester 2023)
- Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Maria Axenovich
- Classes: Proseminar (0170950)
- Weekly hours: 2
"Paul Erdos liked to talk about The Book, in which God maintains the perfect proofs for mathematical theorems, following the dictum of G. H. Hardy that there is no permanent place for ugly mathematics. Erdos also said that you need not believe in God but, as a mathematician, you should believe in The Book." The proseminar is based on the "approximation of The Book" by M. Aigner and G. Ziegler, containing some of the most elegant proofs in analysis, number theory, combinatorics, graph theory, and geometry.
