Spectral Theory (Sommersemester 2008)

Vorlesung: Dienstag 9:45-11:15 Seminarraum 34
Freitag 11:30-13:00 Seminarraum 34
Übung: Montag 15:45-17:15 Seminarraum 34

Spectral theory is a generalization of the eigenvalue theory of matrices to infinite dimensional operators, particularly integral operators and differential operators as occurring in many areas of applications such as mathematical physics and engineering.

This lecture is a continuation of the course "Functional Analysis" and is also addressed to students interested in the research training group "Analysis, Simulation and Design of Nanotechnological Processes".

  • Spectrum and resolvent of linear operators
  • Spectral theory for compact operators, Fredholm alternative for integral operators
  • Functional calculus for self-adjoint operators
  • Applications to Heat-, Schrödinger- and Wave Equations
  • Pertubation theory
