Numerical Methods in Fluidmechanics (Summer Semester 2024)
- Lecturer: Prof. Dr. Willy Dörfler
- Classes: Lecture (0161600), Problem class (0161610)
- Weekly hours: 2+1
- Audience: Mathematics (from 7. semester)
The lecture is offered in english.
Schedule | |||
---|---|---|---|
Lecture: | Monday 9:45-11:15 | 2.059 | Begin: 15.4.2024, End: 22.7.2024 |
Problem class: | Tuesday 8:00-9:30 (every 2nd week) | 3.068 | Begin: 23.4.2024, End: 23.7.2024 |
Starting from basics we develop the continuum mechanical model that lead to the fundamental equations for incompressible flows. We will study in more detail potential flows, Stokes flows (on bounded or exterior domains) and (non-turbulent) Navier--Stokes flows. We will sketch existence theory and show how to obtain numerical solutions with the finite element method, including stability and error estimates.
Examination
In the end of the lecture there will be an oral examination of about 20 min.
