In the past decades lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have become a dominating energy storage technology. Important for the understanding and further development are models, maily in terms of partial differential equations derived from first principles and experimentally obtained experience. To get insight in the processes numerical simulations are indispensable. We present some of the currently used models to describe the electrical mechanical and thermal effects and the numerical solution procedures (based on finite difference, finite elements or finite volumes). The type of problems compass linear and nonlinear systems of diffusion equations, free boundary value problems and contact problems.
Examination
Dates for oral examinations will be discussed in the lecture.
