Mathematical Modelling and Simulation (Winter Semester 2013/14)

  • Audience: Bachelor and all Master programs in mathematics, all other Master programs (5.-9. semester)

Mathematics as way of thinking (via modeling) and as technique (i.e. providing tools) meets problems arising in everyday life. The problems themselves are easy to understand and the lecture will not rely on too much previous knowledge. Basic understanding of probability and Ordinary Differential equations will do. But you should bring along some enthusiasm to use computers.

This lecture is trying to connect different special topics in mathematics and focusses on solving problems.

There are two possibilities:
1) oral exam in groups of two after term
2) written report and talk about a project done during the term
