Spatial Statistics (Räumliche Statistik)
The general goal of spatial statistics is to estimate parameters
and to fit appropriate models for spatial data. Such data occur
in many applications as, for instance, in biology, geology, forestry
and material science. We will start with introducing and discussing
some of the main statistical tools for spatial point processes, i.e.
for random point patterns. Later we will discuss statistical models
of more general random closed sets. A main topic will be the statistical
analysis of the Boolean model that is defined in terms of a stationary
spatial Poisson process and a random convex set.
A prerequisite for the course is a sound knowledge of probability and
measure theory. Though not assumed, some basic knowledge of point
processes (in particular of the Poisson process) and convex geometry
would be helpful.
