Tasks

The task of the Computing Services is to provide an IT infrastructure for the Department of Mathematics. This includes servers with corresponding services (email and email distribution list, file storage, printers, databases, web services, etc.) and a pool room for training purposes. Computing Services either provides these services itself or, together with the IT representatives of the institutes, forms the contact point to the Computing Center for the use of the services offered there.

In addition, Computing Services support the staff of the department in IT matters, for example in the procurement of equipment, by providing software licenses or by providing concrete help if something is not working. We have a certain pool of hardware available for loan (projector, notebooks, digital camera, video camera). We provide special support for the department management and the library, but are generally available for problems that cannot be solved directly in the working groups.

In addition to these actual tasks in the IT area, there are other tasks that are carried out by Computing Services. For example, we support the department with technical issues at events, take photographs or film such events and make these recordings available to faculty members.

In addition to the staff directly employed in Computing Services, colleagues from the institutes also work in individual areas. The following is an overview of the colleagues involved and their areas of responsibility.
