Maternity protection for female students

The new law on the protection of mothers at work, in training and during studies (Maternity Protection Act - MuSchG) came into force on January 1, 2018. With the new regulation of the law, female students are now also included in the scope of the new Maternity Protection Act alongside employees. Students should be able to continue their studies during this time without endangering their health or that of their child.

The central point of contact at KIT for students and lecturers on the subject of maternity protection and studying with a child is the Central Student Advisory Service (ZSB). Simple procedures have been developed for the practical implementation of the law at KIT. Students can obtain all the necessary documents to report a pregnancy or breastfeeding online at https://www.sle.kit.edu/english/wirueberuns/studying-family-responsibilites.php or during a consultation at the Center for Information and Advice (zib). The student has risk assessments carried out by the respective teaching supervisor and submits these with the other documents to SLE.
