Department Teaching Award

What is it about? Why is it important?

The award will be presented in 2027 by the KIT Executive Board and comes with a prize of 10,000 euros. The prize money is to be used to improve Studying and Teaching.

Who can nominate candidates for the award?

The student representatives have the exclusive right to nominate candidates for the department teaching award. All students enrolled in courses offered by the KIT Department of Mathematics, as well as all members of the KIT Department who wish to submit nominations, should therefore contact the Student Representatives for Mathematics. Furthermore, the "Studienkommission" is expected to participate. As in the past, the nomination will be formally approved by the department council.

Who is eligible for nomination for the award?

Individuals among the full-time academic staff, research groups, or organizational units responsible for teaching at the KIT Department of Mathematics. Nominations should pertain to teaching achievements during the Winter Semester 2025/26 or Summer Semester 2026.

How can I submit a nomination for the department teaching award?

Please submit nominations by November 12, 2026, at the latest (internal deadline) to the student representatives of the Mathematics Student Council at https://www.fsmi.org/kontakt/ 

Nominations should include the following information:

  • Name, degree program, and semester level of the nominator(s)
  • Name of the nominated individual, working group, or organizational unit
  • A justification for the nomination (approximately half to one DIN A4 page)

Criteria

  • New forms of teaching and learning
  • Interdisciplinarity
  • High relevance of the specialized knowledge imparted
  • Exceptionally strong research relevance
  • Contribution to the holistic development of students’ competencies and personalities

Request to students: Please consider—and, if necessary, discuss together—which courses you would like to nominate, and submit a collective proposal (listing all nominators).
