Mathematics Choir
The Choir of the Department of Mathematics was founded on July 19, 2022 on the initiative of Lennart Flür by students of the KIT Department of Mathematics to sing together and to musically enrich the cultural life at the department and on campus. The Choir of the Department of Mathematics is now registered as a university group and recruits its more than 30 members mainly from the students and staff of the KIT Departments of Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. We are a young, dynamic choir and an open community - and we are happy to welcome new singers, with or without choir experience!
Rehearsals take place on Mondays from 17:30 to 19:30 in room 0.014, please also see the notice board in the atrium. Anyone who is interested can simply come along and sing. A prerequisite for regular rehearsals and participation in projects is membership in the university group Department of Mathematics Choir. You can download the application form and the current statutes here. The rehearsals and projects are led by the director Rafael Hirsch, who is actively supported by a treasurer and a choir advisory board of several members.
The Departmental Choir is now an integral part of the department's events and regularly performs two concerts a year, a summer concert and a joint Advent sing-along. Rehearsals also include a choir retreat on a weekend during the lecture period.

The 2025 summer concert took place on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025, in the atrium of the mathematics building.
The roughly 60-minute program offered a summery and avied selection: choral works from different stylistic periods and in changing ensembles, including pieses by Monteverdi, Brahms, and Billy Joel. The program was complemented by smaller instrumental contributions from piano, flute, and a string quartet.
